Holy Week and Easter 2020
at Saint James Catholic Church


Given the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, please note the following:

  • In the Diocese of Arlington, the public celebration of Masses and liturgies of Holy Week and Easter are suspended.

  • Saint James Parish will live-stream all scheduled Masses and Holy Week liturgies. Please join us via Facebook or the Parish website.

  • Our church remains open for prayer. Please enter through the main doors and be attentive to complying with the ten person limit.

  • To comply with the ten person limit the church will be closed to the public while the clergy celebrate the liturgies of the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday); otherwise it will be open for prayer.

  • The Diocese of Arlington will also live-stream Bishop Burbidge’s liturgies. Please visit the Diocesan website for the complete schedule.


Confessions during Holy Week

  • Monday – Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • Good Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • Holy Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.


Palm Sunday

Due to health concerns, there will be no distribution of palms.

The principal Mass of the day, with procession and music, will be at 10:30 a.m.

Eucharistic Adoration: The church will be open for Eucharistic Adoration from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please observe the 10 person limit.


Holy Thursday

The following will be celebrated and prayed by the parish clergy and will be live-streamed:

  • 7:30 p.m. ~ The Mass of the Lord's Supper
    (After the reposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the church will be open for the faithful to come and visit our Lord at the altar of repose. Please observe the 10 person limit.)
     
  • 11:50 p.m. ~ Compline (Night Prayer)


Good Friday

The following will be celebrated and prayed by the parish clergy and will be live-streamed:

  • 8:30 a.m. ~ The Office of Readings and Morning Prayer
     
  • 12:00 p.m. ~ Stations of the Cross
     
  • 3:00 p.m. ~ The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion (Please join us via internet and have a crucifix to venerate at the proper time.)

The church will be open for prayer and veneration of the cross after the Liturgy. In so doing, please do not touch the cross.

Holy Saturday

The following will be celebrated and prayed by the parish clergy and will be live-streamed:

  • 8:30 a.m. ~ The Divine Office
     
  • 8:30 p.m. ~ The Easter Vigil


Easter Sunday

All scheduled Masses will be live-streamed. The principal Mass of Easter Sunday will be at 10:30 a.m.

Eucharistic Adoration: The church will be open for Eucharistic Adoration from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please observe the 10 person limit.
