JUST FAITH

Provides a lively and challenging opportunity to investigate, discuss, pray, experience and be formed by Catholic social teaching and the Scriptures as they relate to the poor and vulnerable in our community, nation and world. Two JustFaith groups will be meeting here at St. James this year – Tuesday evenings from 7:00p.m. – 9:30p.m and Wednesday mornings from 10:00a.m. - 12:30p.m. It is not to late to join either of these groups. ST. JAMES WOMEN'S SCRIPTURE STUDY

St. James Women Scripture Study Groups and the St. James Religious Education Office invite all women of the parish community to a Wine & Cheese Soiree to Kick-off the 2008-2009 Women Scripture Study Groups Thursday evening, October 16th, 7:30p.m. – 9:00p.m. in the School Library. Sister Joyce C. Bell, IHM will be our speaker and present The Universal Appeal of St. Paul, The Man of the Year. There are four Women Scripture Study Groups that meet on Wednesday and Friday mornings, Wednesday afternoons, and Thursday evenings. Working women, stay-at-home moms, and retired ladies comprise our groups. New participants are welcome to join. The cost to participate is $20 which includes a Letters from Prison study guide, commentary, answer guide and group DVDs. All women are welcome to attend the Wine & Cheese and hear Sister Joyce’s talk on St. Paul even if not interested in joining a scripture group. RCIA

Classes for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, RCIA, have begun; however, it is not too late to join us. We meet on Monday’s, at 7:30p.m. in the Conference Room of the Knecht Gym. These classes are for any non-Catholics who are interested in the Catholic Church and would like to find out more, and for Catholics who would like to refresh and renew their own knowledge of the Faith. The sessions are being taught by Fr. Hanley

High School Youth Ministry ~ Sunday Youth Group takes place from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Gym and Knecht Conference Room of St. James School. Teens and Parents, Mark Your Calendars:

  • October 12: No Youth Group; Holiday Weekend
  • October 19: Diocesan Rally at Bishop O’Connell; Prior Registration Required with Parent Permission Slip
  • October 26, November 2, 9, 16, 23: Sunday Youth Group Meetings
  • November 30: No Youth Group; Thanksgiving Weekend
  • December 4-6: High School Weekend Retreat; Prior registration Required with Parent Permission Slip
  • December 7: No Sunday Youth group due to retreat
  • December 14: Sunday Youth Group

Catholic Girls Club ~ New!

The group will meet on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 in the Knecht Conference Room. The purpose of the club is to help girls come closer to Christ through formation, friendship, and apostolate. Catholic Boys Club ~ New!

The group will meet on Mondays from 4:00-5:30 in the Knecht Conference Room. The purpose of the club is to provide formation for young men to help them grow in authentic Christian leadership and virtue. The help of dads is needed. Meeting dates are October 6, 20, November 3, 17, December 1, 15. Please contact Beth White to sign up.


RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

There will be a meeting for all parents of 8th Grade students (day school and Religious Education) who are preparing for Confirmation in the spring. This meeting will be Monday, October 6th at 7:30p.m., in Monsignor Heller Auditorium. Our guest speaker will be Fr. Gerry Creedon, pastor of St. Charles Parish in Arlington. This meeting is for parents only. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Please call 703-533-1183 x104 with any questions.

There will be a presentation of our parish candidates for 1st Eucharist on Sunday, October 19th at 9:00a.m. and 10:30a.m. Masses. Please remember them in your prayers this special year.

Our Parish Religious Education Program began on Sept. 23 with a Back-to-School meeting for parents and an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher. Regular classes started on Sept. 30th. Thank you to all our catechists, aides and office volunteers who helped to make the opening of Religious Education Classes so special for the children of our Parish. May they have a wonderful year teaching our parish children. We are so blessed to have these wonderful volunteers at St. James. They are truly a gift from God.
